Noninvasive Evaluation of Myocardial Contractility and Oxygen Consumption in Hyperthyroidism
Park Wee-Hyun
Abstract
For the noninvasive evaluation of the myocardial contractility and oxygen consumption in hyperthyroidism the index of myocardial contractile strength, pressure rate product, triple product and tension time index were determined in 98 femalE; cases. It was found that all of these parameters were increased and the degree of the increases were approXimately proportionate to the severity of the disease. The increase of the index of myocardial contractile strength was primarily due to the shortening of the isovolumic contraction time and the increases in the remaining parameters were mainly caused by the elevation of the blood pressure (systolic or mean) and tachycardia.
